Sightseeing around Anchorage

Sunday 9th June 2013
Clear sky's & sunny
Alarm set for 7am and just at it went off Betty was knocking at the door to warn us that she had just about a scam call she had just received. The call woke her up and the caller stated that they were the front desk and their computer system was down and they needed to confirm details of those in the room including her credit card, which she gave them as they already had both of their names. They then woke up a little more and thought about it and called the desk to find out it was not them. Needless to say they have now called the bank to cancel their card. How inconvenient to say the least especially when they still have 6 weeks of travel ahead of them. So if you are traveling do not give your card details to anyone who calls your room even if they say they are the front desk and already have your names, as this is a scam.
We all went down for breakfast which is in the lobby and spoke with the hotel staff who did not seem to have an explanation as to how someone had both names and knew which room to call, and it was not an outside call, she says they must have by passed the system, all seems a little like an inhouse issue to us. Manager not on duty til tomorrow so will need to speak to her then.

Walked to the weekend Markets to have a look, many nice things handmade items and some great photography. Good willpower not to purchase anything, much to Peter's amazement but luggage is getting to a premium already and still a long way to go. Pete & Geoff walked back to the hotel to catch the 10am shuttle to the airport to collect our next hire car from Hertz as the city office in not open on the weekend. Hope it is a big one, like last time. Betty & Deb stopped at the VIC and gather information about what we could do in the afternoon once the boys return with the car. We also had a stop at Starbuck's then back to the hotel to wait for the boys.

Our car is a Buick Enclave - Red and thank goodness is another big car, giving us plenty of room.

Float Plane Airport

Float Planes - parked in bays just like cars
Once back to our hotel we did a walk down to the James Cook lookout at Resolution Park overlooking the sea, not far from our hotel. Walked back into town having lunch of  Pizza along the way. Went to look at the "Slamn Salmon Derby" fishing comp down at the river not many people catching anything. Looked at the Ulu Knife Factory (a curved knife used by the Native Alaskans) then the free shuttle back into town. Quick look at the Museum which was also the Law Courts so needed ID and scanned before entering. Still some time before our 4pm Trolley Tour of the City and surrounds. A 50 mins very informative tour including a drive out near the largest float plane airport in Alaska. Walked back to our hotel gathered the washing and then we spent the next 2 hours in the laundry, another good job done. We could all think a better ways to spend a couple of hours! Then headed to TGI Fridays for dinner. All had a nice over sized dinner of ribs, Chicken and Salad.
