Fine & Sunny Max 75F
Alarm set for 6am as wake up call 6.30am. Lucky Peter woke early as he had not adjusted the time back on the phone and it was going off at 7am. Breakfast at a Cafe across the road from the hotel. Omelette, fruit and juice. On the bus at 7.30am for a 7.45am departure. Driver is Michael. We drove to San Diego, the traffic has to be seen to be believed. Passing Sea World and the Zoo entrances will not have time to visit either of them today. First stop 9.45am at the Old Town Village, 45 min stop a look around the Old Town site, most interesting, a heavy Spanish/Mexican influence here, off course as they where the first to settle here. Back on the bus and up to Balboa Park, (balboapark.org) this Park has 5 Museum's you could spend
a few days in here looking around, Air & Space, Sports Champions and Automotive. Road works around the park so had to walk in and we passed a big Graduation Ceremony and found out later it was a High School one, seemed more like Univ with all the hype and celebration going on. Looked around the Casa Del'Prado and got a coffee then a few photo of the Isle of Man Museum and back to the bus.
Drove into Downtown area, passing the Gastown area, Petco Park, hugh Baseball Stadium, arrived at the Seaport Village at 12.25pm, we had decided not to do the option cruise this afternoon so we enjoyed free time to walk around and export the walk along the bay with views of the San Diego - Coronado Bay Bridge and watched a Navy Vessel steam out under it. Lunch in a Cafe in the Village enjoying the fresh air and views over the bay.
Walked the other way along the water's edge to the USS Midway Museum (www.midway.org). She is a very large Aircraft Carrier that is now a Museum, you would also need a good few hours to look over her.
Walked back to the Village to rejoin the bus at 2.30pm, collected those who had been on the cruise and by 3pm on our way back to LA. In traffic bumper to bumper after only 30 mins, it flowed most of the way it took us 3 hours to get back to the hotel arriving at 6pm. The amount of cars on the road is astounding. 6-8 lanes in each direction all bumper to bumper for most of the way, plus roads going over the main highway, our guide says they call it "Spagetti".
We walked about 30 mins to find the supermarket and somewhere to eat. A few supplies for the long bus ride tomorrow and dinner at a IHop, nice light meal of very tasty Savory Crepe, Omelette and Pancakes for dessert. Back to the hotel about 8.45pm, sort our cases and dry the washing from this morning and off to bed.
