Radiance of The Seas Cruise - 31st May to 7th June 2013 - part 3

Day 6 - Wednesday 5th June 2013 - Skagway - Train on the Whitepass Yukon Route Railway
Docking at Skagway at 7am. Alarms set for 6am and breakfast for 7am. Cloudy - very windy and 8C. Due to met at the train station at 8.15am arrived at 7.55am and all the allocated carriages for our ship appear to be full. The guide put us in the disabled carriage with 4 other people giving us whole carriage for a total of 8 even had a heater on board. Very easy to move around and take photos from each side of the train and the open sections of the carriage.
Great commentary and outstanding views along the way. At the top of mountain the turn around when the engine moved up to the front again we had the views of the frozen lake. Very spectacular and beautiful scenery all the way. A Fantastic train journey and is one of the best in the world and we can see why. Walk back to the ship in the cold wind and rain for lunch.

Rain has stopped so we headed out again for a walk around the old downtown of Skagway. Tour with the Ranger was booked out so with our special guide Betty at the helm with the brochure in hand we did the walking tour of Skagway most interesting. Sunny but with a very cold wind blowing. Betty & Geoff walked back to the ship and Deb & Pete watched a movie at the Ranger station on the early Gold Rush days of the Klondike in Skagway and surrounds. We caught the shuttle back to the ship had to walk the last bit of the way as 4 ships in port today.

Debbie & Peter - Dinner 2nd Formal night

Our 2nd formal dinner tonight. Dinner at 6.30pm after dinner we had some formal photo's taken of the 4 of us together. Then off to Showtime at 9pm - "Horizon Motown & more show". Good show once again. Deb & Peter watched the Battle of the Sexes game and The Quest Game most entertaining in the Colony Club rear of the ship on the 6th floor. We are into quite rolling seas now so heading for bed at 11.30pm.

Day 7 - Thursday 6th June 2013 - Hubbard Glacier
Once again alarms set for 6am as we are due to arrive at Hubbard Glazier, we awoke to see snow covered mountains all around us. Fine blue sky - freezing wind. No breakfast and all rugged up (well so we thought) up on the top deck to hold out photo spots. It was freezing in the wind, watching as we approached Hubbard Glacier the ship moving through the ice floating all around us. Gave us an incite to how those on the Titanic must have felt and easy to understand how so many lost their lives in the icy waters all that time ago. Many photos taken and finally back inside to warm up and have some breakfast 8.30am in the Windjammer Cafe. The ship stayed in near the Glacier for about an hour so everyone had the chance to get their photos. We could have stayed in bed and got good photos when the rush was over, all part of the experience. Underway again and we watched the ship pull away from the Glacier from our cabins then up on deck another spectacular experience they seem to just keep getting better.

Debbie & Betty did some shopping at the Gift shop, special day that they had been watching since we came on board, helped fill up the cruise Sea Pass accounts. Special BBQ lunch today on the Pool Deck and then off to Bingo to wind a 7 Night cruise - NOT!!! Well got to be in it to win it! Lots of fun this time in the Aurora Theatre. Just enough time to get ready for 2nd Formal Night and final night Dinner. Window seat once again and we watched the snow filled mountains as we had dinner. After dinner had some photos taken. Evening showtime once again Sean Laughlin & Radiance of the Seas Orchestra, singers and dancers. Back to our rooms to pack the bags. Mission accomplished bags outside our door by 10.40pm and the deadline was 11pm. Seas and ship rolling in a big swirl and getting worse so straight into bed.
