Lava River Cave - Mt Hood - to Hood River - Mother's Day

Sunday 12th May 2013 - Mother's Day
Alarm woke us at 7am and breakfast, cereal and fruit on the balcony overlooking the main highway with trucks/semi's hitting the road for the day. On the road by 9am as planned, stopped at the Paulina Lake ranger station and got some information about the Obsidian Flow and Lave River Cave. The Big Obsidian Flow (Lava Flow covered in Snow) was interesting and a site to see. Stopped at East Lake for morning tea muffins and pictures. Next stop was the Lava River Cave we descended into the long cave 80F outside and 40F (=5C)  inside, jackets on that's for sure. With our Lanterns to enable us to see we walked the length of the cave approx 1 mile long with some large and very tight corridors. Fuel at Bend 18.083 Gallons $72.31.

Entrance to Lava River Cave

Next stop Mt Hood and Timberline Lodge - used in the filming of The Shinning in 1980 - Heritage Listed Lodge. Great views from here as well.

Timberline Lodge - Mt Hood
