Hood River to Portland

Tuesday 14th May 2013
Breakfast in the Motel restaurant again this morning, car packed and on the way about 10ish. A stop for grocery shopping and heading up the Columbia River Gorge to see the waterfalls today. First stop Cassacades Lock and then onto Boneville Dam with Fish Ladder. We did manage to see some fish in the viewing room. Massive spillway overflowing with water interesting stop.

Waterfalls Horsetail Falls our lunch stop today. Then onto Multnomah Stunning Falls and Wahkeena, and Latourell very beautiful with such a sunny clear day. Due to road closure because of snow we could not make it to  the Mountain lookout or Visa House lookout. Did manager to see Mt Hood in the distance and stopped for a photo.

Continued up to Portland and reached our Mark Spencer Hotel in downtown Portland about 5ish. Checked in, car parked across the street and off out at 5.50pm to catch the Street Car up to the SkyTram for a view of Portland. Interesting chat at the Streetcar stop with a group of locals, most people ask where are we from? They are facinated that we are traveling so far for so long and most envious of our planned journey in the next few weeks. View of Portland from the top of the Aerial Skytram was worth the wait for the Streetcar. From the Aerial Skytram stop we caught it back to the NW 23rd to had dinner at another nice restraurant Beswas, quaint little part of town. Soft drinks served in old glass canning jars apparently a new trend. Wonder if that will catch on in Australia? To avoid a long wait for the Streetcar for the return trip we started walking back to the Hotel. Ended up walking all the way arriving back 9.45pm. Diary for Peter and FB/Email catch up for Deb. Download photos lst night but internet a bit slow up posting this morning. Yesterday we travele from portland to Seattle will post again tongiht about that and our day sightseeing around Seattle.
